Serve Our Community With Us
SAFE Food Ministry
Our local ecumenical food ministry, located just north of the church, is open each Tuesday and Saturday.
SAFE opened its doors in May of 2013. Since then, SAFE has been serving families in our community who do not have reliable access to sufficient affordable and nutritious foods. From the beginning, the vision for this 501(c)3 non-profit organization has been one where people are given a hand up, and not just a hand out. Acknowledging that hunger touches all aspects life, when family members come to SAFE to be served they are offered not only food and access to other resources like financial counseling, health care referrals, and friendship through supportive conversation.

Stone Soup Menus
This ministry provides 2-3 meals a week to anyone in need. Mary Casey, who started Stone Soup Menus last spring, is working with several farmers and restaurants to prepare meals, all of which are cooked at Swepsonville UMC where the ministry is housed.
To volunteer on Tuesdays, contact Pastor Sue at firstname.lastname@example.org.
To volunteer on Thursdays, contact Mary Casey at email@example.com.
If you are unable to volunteer to deliver meals, but are able to volunteer your time in other ways, contact Mary Casey at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Saxapahaw Village Kids Preschool & Daycare
Saxapahaw Village Kids provides affordable daycare for this community through a sliding scale tuition (based on income) and the opportunity for full or part-time enrollment. The curriculum uses a Reggio Emilia approach, emphasizing experiencial learning. Visiting neighbor's chickens, going on hikes in woods behind the church, and growing a small vegetable garden are all part of the preschool's desire to have kids learn by doing.
B. Everett Jordan Elementary School
Supporting our local elementary school, B. Everett Jordan, has become a priority. Local churches, including Saxapahaw UMC, support the children through a weekly snack pack program - providing food for children each Friday so they will have food for the weekend (more information here).
Reading Partners @ BEJ
Can you volunteer one hour a week for the rest of the academic year? Join the team of reading partners! Katie Wood, the new literacy coach at BEJ, will connect you with two first graders who need a partner to help them strengthen their reading skills. You can make a huge difference in the life of a child by being a Partner in Reading. Join the team today! If you have questions, contact Ms. Wood directly at email@example.com
