Saxapahaw UMC Staff
Sue is a pastor and a teacher, a theologian and a scientist. She is curious about the way the world works, hungry to learn more about God, and constantly looking for connections between seemingly disparate ideas. She is a life-long learner and an avid reader, enjoying theology, spirituality, psychology, and current fiction. She loves the outdoors and can be found hiking the trails in and around Saxapahaw every day. In addition, she enjoys writing, drawing, singing, gardening, and cooking.
Sue claims two places as home: Saxapahaw, NC, and Lethbridge, Alberta (in Canada). She and her husband, Jim, own a home in Saxapahaw; Lethbridge is a family home – a constant throughout Sue's life. Sue's love of animals is also a constant in her life – her dogs and cats are her faithful furry companions.
Sue has been the pastor at Saxapahaw United Methodist Church since 2010. Prior to that Sue lived in Durham, NC, where she went to school (Duke graduate, '86, '93, '09) and taught high school science in the Durham Public School system. She is ordained as an Elder in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Sue is passionate about sharing the love of God in creative and diverse ways, listening to and telling all kinds of stories, asking thought-provoking questions, and building and strengthening community.
Heather is from Huntington, WV where she grew up and attended undergrad at Marshall University in journalism. She grew up United Methodist and was very active in the UMC campus ministry at Marshall which led her to hearing a calling to go into ministry.
She's still discerning what type of ministry setting she'd like to serve in, but feels called to be ordained in the UMC. She'll be entering her third and final year at Duke in the fall with plans to return to West Virginia upon graduation. She's so looking forward to working with you all this summer, and is excited to meet each one of you at Saxapahaw UMC and in the greater community!
