Micro Loan Program / Programa de Micro-préstamos

Para Español: https://bit.ly/micro-prestamos

The mission of this program is to empower individuals and families to make a change in their lives by connecting them to relational and financial resources.

The congregation at Saxapahaw United Methodist Church, in seeking to build strong mutual relationships with one another, began offering zero-interest micro-loans in 2019 to help church and community members pursue a dream or fill a gap.

UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, the person seeking financial assistance must meet the following basic criteria:

  1. The need is not an emergency. There must be time to discern, explore options, and choose the best path.

  2. The person seeking assistance is in the midst of a life transition. Without financial support, they will not be able to pursue their dream or take the steps needed to overcome a current challenge.

  3. The amount of money requested can realistically be paid off within one to two years.

DURING THIS PANDEMIC THE FIRST CRITERION HAS BEEN WAIVED. In addition, the loan amount must be between $250 and $2,500.

If you are seeking assistance, please fill out the application. Each application will be reviewed by Pastor Billy Sander and the Finance Team at Saxapahaw United Methodist Church. All information is completely confidential.

Funds disbursed will depend on the generosity of the community in supporting this program. Our goal is to help as many individuals and families as possible.

Please be patient! You will hear back from us as soon as possible.

Request Funds from the Pastor's Discretionary Fund

Saxapahaw United Methodist Church has a Pastor's Discretionary Fund for smaller needs and emergencies; typically these are one-time financial obligations. Often these funds are used pay part of an electric bill (so the power will not be turned off) or to pay for a necessary medication. Typically these requests are between $30 and $150.

If you, or someone you know, has a need, please contact Pastor Billy directly at wsander@nccumc.org or 919-988-0616 (please leave a message).

Together we can enrich the lives of all in our community!

Support the Micro Loan Program

Saxapahaw United Methodist Church established the Micro Loan program in 2019 with the mission of empowering individuals and families to make a change in their lives by connecting them to relational and financial resources. These micro loans are zero interest loans given to community members who are seeking assistance in the midst of a life transition. The expectation is that the individuals or families will be able to pay back these loans within one to two years.

At this time, the Micro Loan account has $9,800. We believe that, with the financial support of the community, we can easily double, and hopefully triple, this amount and be able to offer loans between $250 and $2,500 to as many community members as possible. In addition it is our hope that, through your generosity,we will be able to forgive all or part of the loan. If, when all is said and done, we still have $9,800 in the account, we will be satisfied.

You can support those in the community who are in need two different ways:

  1. Write a check and mail it to Saxapahaw UMC, Box 268, Saxapahaw, NC 27340 and write "Micro Loan" on the memo line.

  2. Go to saxumc.org and click on the "Give Today" button. It will take you to a secure site where you can make a donation. Please select the Micro Loan Fund. NOTE: If you give using a credit or debit card the church is charged a 3% fee. If you are able to give directly from a checking or saving account there is no fee.

All donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for your generosity in these unprecedented times!
