Palm / Passion Sunday

April 5th @ 9:00 am, 10:15 am, or 11:30 am

Worship using Zoom or your telephone! Sign up at https://bit.ly/saxumcpalmsunday2020 to participate in one of three small group worship experiences. By gathering in small groups we are able to connect intentionally with God and one another. As we mark the beginning of Holy Week we will read the Passion Narrative, listening closely to the story of Jesus' suffering and death. When you sign up you will have the option to participate by reading scripture. Please sign up as you feel led. Pastor Bailey and Pastor Sue are looking forward to sharing this time with you!

Note: Please sign up by Saturday, April 4th @ 5:00 pm. An email with instructions for how to connect will follow. If you have questions, please contact Pastor Sue at seldon@nccumc.org or 919-454-5669.

The Stations of the Cross

Anytime During Holy Week

The object of the Stations is to help the faithful to make a spiritual pilgrimage of prayer, through meditating upon the chief scenes of Christ's sufferings and death. The stations will be set up in our sanctuary starting Sunday, April 5th @ 5:00 pm and will remain in the sanctuary until Saturday, April 11th @ 5:00 pm.  Please come during daylight hours. Enter through the double doors next to the daycare entrance and read and follow the instructions. Our hope and prayer is that this time will be a blessing for you as you prepare for Easter.

Maundy "Wednesday"

Come to the Love Feast!

Wednesday, April 8th @ 7:00 pm

Typically on Maundy Thursday we gather to share Communion and wash one another's feet as Jesus did on the night before he died. This year we will gather remotely to remember Jesus' last supper with his disciples by sharing in a Love Feast.

We have chosen a Love Feast because we are not able to share Communion remotely. The modern history of the Love Feast began when the Moravians in Germany introduced a service of sharing food, prayer, religious conversation, and hymns in 1727. John Wesley first experienced it among the Moravians in Savannah, Georgia, ten years later. His diary notes: "After evening prayers, we joined with the Germans in one of their love–feasts. It was begun and ended with thanksgiving and prayer, and celebrated in so decent and solemn a manner as a Christian of the apostolic age would have allowed to be worthy of Christ."

Come to the feast online or on your phone, bringing bread (often a sweet bread like donuts or muffins or cake, or crackers) and a drink (such as water, lemonade, or tea). Note that we are intentionally not using bread and grape juice, so as to not confuse this feast with communion. Together we will share in a time of worshipful work as we feast.

Good Friday

Tenebrae: A Service of Diminishing Light

April 10th @ 7:00 pm

This Service of Tenebrae or “Darkness” offers us the opportunity to meditate on the passion of Christ, remembering all that Jesus has done for us through his death. A few congregation members have agreed to lead this service in the sanctuary. Through song, scripture readings, and prayer you will be able to witness the power of that Good Friday so long ago when Christ gave his life for us. It will be available for you to participate through Zoom.
